HAPPY 27th BIRTHDAY MIKE GREEN!!
(Born on 10/12/1985 in Calgary, AB, Canada)
Mike Green is not only an NHL leading scoring defenseman, he does so much for the community of Washington as well. He provides Capitals game tickets to underserved children, injured soldiers and active military and their families in the DC area through a program called “Green’s Gang.”
Green is a leader off the ice and partnered with Elliot Segal of Elliot in the Morning on DC101 FM to create the “So Kids Can” program benefiting youth-focused nonprofit organizations like Pediatric Prosthetics, Inc.and KaBoom!
Greenie joined teammates Brooks Laich and Nicklas Backstrom, along with Elliot Segal to build a playground in Alexandria in September with Kaboom.
Green was nominated in 2010 and 2011 for the NHL Foundation Player Award which is awarded annually to the National Hockey League (NHL) player “who applies the core values of (ice) hockey—commitment, perseverance and teamwork—to enrich the lives of people in his community.”
Greenie even tweets so don’t forget to wish #52 a Happy Birthday!

Something made Caps Brooks Laich and Mike Green laugh while chatting wth volunteer Connor (age 7) – Washington Capitals and So Kids Can partnered with KaBOOM! and ARHA to replace the playground at S.T.A.R.S. Playground at Hopkins-Tancil Court in Old Town Alexandria, September 13, 2012 (Cheryl Nichols/District Sports Page)
