Rookie pitcher Joe Ross stepped up to help the Washington Nationals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-1 on Friday night in front of a sold out crowd of 38,935 at Nationals Park while striking out eleven batters in his third Major League start. Ross was consistent through seven and one-third innings pitched. He threw 102 pitched and seventy three strikes while giving up one run on six hits, striking out eleven, and walking one batter. Washington Nationals Game 62 Review: Ross goes eight strong to top Brewers

The Washington Nationals have struggled hitting in their past 20 games, and dropped the first two of a four-game weekend series from the Milwaukee Brewers. On Saturday, the bats woke up a bit and the Nats benefitted from a tremendous outing from their rookie pitcher to top the Brewers 7-2 at Miller Park.

Joe Ross, making his second start of the season, was stellar to earn his first big league win. He went eight impressive innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk, striking out eight. Washington Nationals Game 55 Review: Espinosa provides pop as Nats top Cubs

Danny Espinosa’s renaissance continued, as he went 2 for 4 with a home and three driven in and the Washington Nationals topped the Chicago Cubs 7-5 Friday at Nationals Park.

Espinosa’s three-run homer in teh second off Cubs starter Tsuyoshi Wada was his seventh of the season. Espinosa, who figured to lose playing time with the activation of Anthony Rendon this week, was back in the starting lineup at second, with Rendon sliding over to third, as Yunel Escobar missed the game with a wrist injury sustained Thursday night on a checked swing.
