It was a somber day at Redskins Park when the players that worked through adversity for much of the year had to come to terms with the fact that their season was over. The close-knit group sat around playing cards to try and delay the inevitable exit interviews and cleaning out of lockers that would officially end their season. Mason Foster put it best on Twitter by posting the picture to the right with the caption “THEM BOYS ARE HAVIN THE TIME OF THEIR LIVES” from Varsity Blues to underscore the special bond the team has developed.

With regards to in-house free agency candidates click here, but here is everything you need to know from the official last day of the 2015-16 season (ordered based on earliest completion of exit interviews):

An early look at the Washington Redskins’ in-house free agent options

When the Washington Redskins season came to a sudden end at the hands of the Green Bay Packers Sunday afternoon, heartbreak fell over the DMV. The reality is that the Redskins were a much improved football team and no longer the laughing stock of the league. With Scot McCloughan at the helm, Redskins fans should feel confident about the stability of the franchise for the first time in years.

Knowing McCloughan’s work ethic of always evaluating talent, he will get right to work on offseason moves, starting with resigning key pieces before Free Agency begins on March 15 at 4 p.m. Here is a list of all 21 of the Washington Redskins 2016 free agents and determining who must be back or who the franchise could afford to let walk. Washington Redskins: Jay Gruden talks injuries, importance of early leads, and Packers

The Washington Redskins found out they will be hosting the Green Bay Packers on Sunday at 4:40 pm, which will be broadcasted on FOX. That news came out several hours following the Redskins beating the Dallas Cowboys to end the regular season with a 9-7 record. In just his second year at the helm, Jay Gruden reflected on the recent success leading up to an NFC East championship and began to preview the Wild Card matchup.

On the injury front reserve defensive back Dashaun Phillips, who was taken out of the Cowboys game on a stretcher in a scary situation, “looks like he’s going to be OK.” Phillips, an ace on special teams as a gunner, is dealing with a painful cervical stinger but Gruden is not ruling out the possibility of him practicing on Wednesday. The news is actually worse for Kyshoen Jarrett who is already ruled out of the Packers game because of concern about the “nerve that affects his right arm.” Jarrett will undergo further tests while Joe Barry and Perry Fewell come up with a “plan on who’s going to play where and how” without their versatile rookie.

Washington Redskins: Week 17 Injury Report

The Washington Redskins have clinched the NFC East division and are locked into the fourth seed of the playoffs, but must finish out the regular season against the Dallas Cowboys before getting set to host an unknown foe. Although it is expected for Jay Gruden to rest the banged up Redskins, he still has the “intent of playing guys that are going to be healthy.” As a result, the likes of Kirk Cousins and Jordan Reed will start for at least a set amount of snaps.

Washington Redskins: Skins clinch NFC East with impressive victory over Eagles in primetime

When the season started, the Washington Redskins were easily the laughing stock of the NFL. Robert Griffin III was benched and Kirk Cousins was given the keys to the team. With Tony Romo hurt, Chip Kelly’s player personnel thinking not panning out, and the Giants defense out of sorts, the NFC East was up for grabs.

Things might not have looked pretty early in the year, or even near halftime of today’s game, but in the end Kirk Cousins is showing why he is a starter in the National Football League. Behind 365 yards passing, four touchdowns, and poise after making an ultimate blunder from Cousins, the Washington Redskins steamrolled the Philadelphia Eagles 38-24. Washington Redskins: Week 15 Injury Report

The Washington Redskins have been one of the harder hit franchise in the National Football League and in the midst of a NFC East playoff battle, they can ill afford to lose any more valuable pieces because they simply are not a good enough football team to overcome it.

Washington Redskins Sign Thomas, Thompson’s Future Unclear

With Chris Thompson’s immediate future in question due to a shoulder injury, the Washington Redskins signed running back Pierre Thomas Friday afternoon.

To make room for the additional running back, defensive lineman Stephen Paea was placed on the season-ending Injured Reserve list with a toe injury. After setting a career-high in sacks with the Chicago Bears a year ago, he reached the quarterback for just 1.5 sacks in his first of four seasons with Washington.

Thomas was at Redskins Park on Friday and practiced with the team. The nine-year veteran stayed after to continue working before coming inside to talk to reporters. [Read more…]

Washington Redskins: Week 14 Injury Report

Although not as bad as earlier in the year where you could not count the number of starters out for a game on one hand, the Washington Redskins are back to losing out on important members of their team. If they want to have any chance of winning the weakened NFC East, they will have to get the most out of their healthy players against the Bears on Sunday. To put in nicely, the Redskins are “a little banged up right now” according to Jay Gruden.

With the shortened week following a Monday night game, Washington held a walkthrough on Wednesday.
