In the seventh inning of tonight’s Washington Nationals game, manager Matt Williams called upon LHP Matt Grace out of the bullpen to make his MLB debut.
Grace was recalled before the game when Felipe Rivero was put on the disabled list with a gastrointestinal bleed.
Grace, 26, becomes the third man to hold the “second lefty in the pen” role this season, following Rivero and Xavier Cedeno, who was dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers for “cash considerations” early in the day.
Grace was 0-1 with a 3.52 ERA in 7 2/3 innings in Syracuse this season. Last year, he was 5-1 with a 1.17 ERA between Harrisburg and Syracuse. He has a low-90s fastball with lots of sink, which generates a lot of ground balls.
