Washington Redskins: Injury Report prior to Wild Card match up against Green Bay Packers

It still might not have soaked in yet that half of the NFC East teams are looking for new head coaches and that does not include the Washington Redskins. The NFC East champions actually have more important things on their mind: Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. Defensive backs coach Perry Fewell has been working with an undermanned unit all year and that will likely continue on Sunday. The banged up secondary is just one aspect of the Redskins injury report heading into the playoffs.

  • Kyshoen Jarrett (nerve in right arm): placed on season ending injured-reserve (OUT) on Tuesday after getting blown up by Darren McFadden, who illegally used the crown of his helmet.
  • DaShon Goldson (shoulder/rib): limited the entire week as the leader of the Redskins defense (ACTIVE). Jay Gruden believes the rest he was able to get last week without playing will be evident.
  • Quinton Dunbar (quad): limited for all practices (ACTIVE) as he deals with a muscle injury that kept him out of facing Dallas. It is possible that Washington brought in Cary Williams not only to replace Jarrett but because there was doubt about Dunbar’s availability in the postseason. Dunbar had a “good day” on Thursday by showing “some bursts of speed” said Jay Gruden as “signs are pointing in a positive direction.”
  • Perry Riley (foot): limited throughout the week (INACTIVE) as he recovers from a broken metatarsal that has sidelined him since Week 12 of the regular season. With Mason Foster solidifying his spot in the starting lineup with Will Compton, it is unclear what role Riley would play even when completely healthy.
  • Jason Hatcher (neck/knee): limited all week as has become relatively common practice (ACTIVE). Washington has been saving Hatcher’s motor for these kind of games in particular and having last week off he is ready to put in 100% in preparation of the Packers.
  • Matt Jones (hip): “very” limited during practice throughout the week as his hip pointer injury continues to limit his range of motion on top of soreness (INACTIVE). As it stands now, Jones will be the “odd man out” in the three running back race. Jones will test things out before the game on Sunday but is likely to be inactive.
  • Dashaun Phillips (stinger): FULL participant throughout the week (ACTIVE) following a scary situation where he was taken out on a stretcher against the Cowboys, again due to the unsafe running style of Darren McFadden.
  • Trent Williams (knee), Kory Lichtensteiger (neck), DeSean Jackson (knee), Jeron Johnson (chest), and Chris Thompson (toe) practiced in full throughout the week and are ACTIVE.

The Packers will be without Sam Shields (concussion) and left tackle David Bakhtiari (left ankle) on Sunday.
