Washington Redskins: Week 13 Saturday Press Conference Wrap Up

On the last day of practice before facing the Dallas Cowboys, the Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden and offensive coordinator Sean McVay addressed the media.

Beyond a rather hefty injury report that has six Redskins questionable for Monday’s game, Washington waived safety Trenton Robinson with an injury designation on Friday after he re-tweaked his injured hamstring. Washington will wait until Sunday to fill the spot on the 53 man roster. Even though Mason Foster is expected to start at the linebacker position, the Redskins could add another to the active roster with the injuries to Week 1 starters Keenan Robinson and Perry Riley Jr. Carlos Fields, Derrick Matthews, and Lynden Trail are on options off the practice squad.

Sean McVay knows that the Cowboys defense is “extremely sound” especially with their personnel that is well suited for Joe Barry‘s father-in-law Rod Marinelli’s defense.

McVay also talked briefly about some of the position players that he has to work with:

  • DeSean Jackson “brings a different element” to the team and is able to “open things up.”
  • Kirk Cousins is “getting better each and every week.”
  • Alfred Morris is a “rhythm runner” but is running the “same” relatively to last year. The coaching staff continues to have “a lot of confidence in him.”
  • Jordan Reed “knows he can be better in the run game” compared to his rather high number of penalties, 10, so far this season.
