Washington Wizards Game 41 Review: Wizards earn gritty win in Brooklyn

The Washington Wizards picked up a significant win over the Brooklyn Nets on the road on Saturday, 99-90. Washington (28-13) outscored the Nets by 12 over the final three quarters en route to the victory.

In Paul Pierce’s first game back in Brooklyn after spending the 2013-14 season with the Nets, he went 2-for-9 from the field, both of his made shots coming from three. Nene led the Wizards’ effort with 20 points, shooting 8-for-12 from the field. Jarrett Jack had a game-high 22 points in 41 minutes for Brooklyn (17-24).

Wizards notes

  • Washington’s play on the glass was a factor, as they out-rebounded the Nets 49-40, including a game-high 16 from Marcin Gortat, nine from Bradley Beal and six each from Nene and John Wall.
  • Three-point shooting was a lowlight for both teams – the Wizards went 5-for-16 and the Nets went 4-for-17.
  • The Wizards’ 11 fast break points to the Nets’ four proved to be a key element to the cause, as it has through the first half of the year.
  • Washington is an impressive 23-1 when holding opponents to less than 100 points.
  • Perhaps the decisive moment, Nene was fouled by Mason Plumlee with 3:35 to go, and made the basket and the ensuing foul shot to put his team up 93-87.
  • Washington made four of their six free throws in the final 30 seconds to ensure that any thoughts of a Nets comeback would remain just that – thoughts.
  • The next game for the Wizards will be a Monday matinee against the 76ers at Verizon Center at 2 p.m.
